Napoléon Stone Bust

Napoléon Stone Bust by Trudon presents the emperor as a wax portrait wearing his distinctive bicorne hat and military uniform. His folded arms and lowered gaze give the sculpture a reserved, commanding posture. The pale Stone colour highlights the sculpted folds, epaulettes and details of the portrait. Trudon’s narrative recalls the use of Napoléon’s likeness on sculptures, snuffboxes and fans to build his public image from the Consulate onwards. It follows the changing fortunes of that image through the Restoration and Second Empire. The reproduction is created in collaboration with the Plaster Cast Workshop of the Rmn–Grand Palais.
